Cancer Can Hit You Fast

I never thought it would happen to me. I am healthy. I play hockey 3 times a week, lift weights, and run. There is no reason why I should be getting sick right before my 50th birthday. Well, cancer doesn’t care! I was diagnosed with a tumor in my auditory canal at the end of March (2002), and within a very short time it quickly spread into my inner ear, attacked my facial nerve and was enroute to my brain.

You just don’t think it will happen to you.

Cancer inside the auditory canal is very rare, and lots of times it’s misdiagnosed by family doctors. If it wasn’t for my persistence, a proactive receptionist, a good ENT specialist, and a great team at Sunnybrook hospital, I would be dead today. In a short period of time, my cancer doubled in size, it was on my jugular, and was ready to attack my brain.

I am lucky to be alive. And, I speak from experience when I say that you must take responsibility for your own health.

Enjoy today because you never know whats around the corner.
